Alrihkh The melodies of Drifting Sun greatly appeal to me. This album wastes no time casting it’s pleasant spell on me via the cascading keys in The Charade. Throughout the album, drums, guitars, keys, and vocals are smooth, strong, and expressive; a lively blend of bright prog rock. Bombastic and spirited flourishes abound amid dreamy, melodic structures. The use of secondary voices in support of the lead vocalist is well done, giving his sentiments heavier credence. Very dramatic! 8+/10. Favorite track: Minstrel.

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) I can't emphasize it frequently enough - in my opinion, "Drifting Sun" is one of the most sophisticated, most enchanting, most promising contemporary neo-prog bands around. Few are the bands with such a sublime creative output, drawn from an obviously never ending stream of brilliant ideas. Pat Sanders' compositions steadily transport a hard-to-be-matched beauty of sound to the listeners' ears. This remixed re-release of the band's 1999 album "On the Rebound" is a timeless gem in my collection. Favorite track: Minstrel.

The Charade 13:20
Stop and listen to these words Open up and free yourself Break down the walls To a closed heart and mind You’ll find that you have no time to understand It’s early in the morning Waking my eyes to the day Stumble from my sleep Wipe the dreams from my eyes The dreams make no sense And I’m ready to begin… again Ready to begin… again This never-ending charade This is what there is All to drink of the magic cup And there’s no more Is it more of the same Of which my life has become? Stop and listen to these words Open up and free yourself Break down the walls To a closed heart and mind You’ll find that you have no time to understand This is what there is to say A final act to the final show And there’s no more And you think that you can say I don’t live and my heart’s denied Poor little soul And deaf ears on your words they fall Look in my eyes Never forgive you at all And I don’t see the reason for The things you’d have me believe Your one-sided mission to set me free What’s that look upon your face? Can’t you understand? I’ve got too many things to do Sorry I spoiled your plans Another day at the office Another one in the grave Stop that shaking of your head, Lest you throw me into a rage Always trying to tell me What’s good… what’s life Stop and smell the coffee This one’s been here all night I’m not the one with the problem Don’t you point at me Have you forgot I’ve work to do? Dump that coffee and make some tea I was a lonely man Sitting on the edge of a fall (I never dreamed it would happen to me) The path I walked was always so clear (Now the dreams are becoming real) You told me to stare at the painting on the wall (A moment frozen to our eyes indifferent) How casually I dismiss this… (No wings of angels to turn your eyes) So (forward) I step into a (picture), a window (Arrested) motion, (primitive) sense of (living) Will I breathe (again)? The life I know (nothing) of until now! This is what there is to say A final act to the final show And there’s no more And you think that you can say I don’t live and my heart’s denied Poor little soul And deaf ears on your words they fall Look in my eyes Never forgive you at all And I don’t see the reason for The things you’d have me believe Your one-sided mission to set me free Now I open my eyes and see The consequence of my imminent falter A second look at the world I wake up and reborn Taking the time to look around Embracing a world that holds more for me I’ll never look back, I’m not gonna fall!

Swan Song 06:42
Read between the lines, it’s not so hard To find the truth of what it means You patronize, I sympathize But what the hell in the world Could you ever hope to gain? And you hope you’ll gain… You look at me, I look at you But will we ever see our colours? Holding on, growing old Seeing what I want to see Holding out, but giving up Hearing what I want to hear Every which way the same shade of grey And in the fading light there’s proof No matter where our point of view We always will remain The same old traces of our youth Though we never do appear The characters that we endear in fantasy Searching places high and low The answer was before me all the time… Every which way the same shade of grey And in the fading light there’s proof No matter where our point of view We always will remain The same old traces of our youth

Drifting Sun 07:04
She waits in silence for the memory… For the lucid dream It returns every night She flies alone in a waking sleep Above the world and beyond herself In the song of the night Nothing holds or keeps away the love In the paradise of her soul A quiet world, free to fly A new reality Ascending high away from fear In the darkness tranquility To provide escape… The means to an end There is no justice for the lonely one Who lives in fear in a waking world A silent cries no one hears Are they listening? And the wound runs deep, A spirit left to die Release the pain and find a new beginning Inspired by imaginary grace And if you lose your faith Just look inside and find your way Close your eyes and see a world beyond So you’re falling, you’re falling from grace So you imagine a place You can hide the child inside A quiet world free to fly A new reality Spreading wings away from fear In the dark of the night someone looks… Watches from above Within a space away from fear Release the pain and find a new beginning Inspired by imaginary grace And if you lose your faith Just look inside and find your way Close your eyes and see a world beyond Transcend the edges Of the daylight sleeping Inspired by imaginary grace And when you close your eyes Just spread your wings and take your flight Flying higher than the midnight sun In the song of the night Nothing holds or keeps away the love In the paradise of your soul Transcend the edges Of the daylight sleeping Inspired by imaginary grace And when you close your eyes Just spread your wings and take your flight Flying higher than the midnight sun Just a minute to close your eyes Into the realms where eternity lies All your hopes and dreams are one Angel’s fire, the Drifting Sun Memories face… iron to rust Bring shattering pain to scattering dust And as the dark of night declines As you awaken the day to rise A new beginning as time does hold These hopes and dreams will now unfold Memories fade… iron to rust Bring shattering pain to scattering dust All your hopes and dreams are one Angel’s fire, the Drifting Sun Memories fade… iron to rust Bring shattering pain to scattering dust

Long Nights 10:24
I took a step then brace for the fall (clouded vision) Another night, they pass in a haze (spinning, numbing) Try to speak then wait for the words (reaching, slurring) You speak to me, I can’t understand you (fading, whispering) Too much confusion I can’t hear what you say This room won’t stop turning I’m here and now I think I’ll stay Feeding the blood of my willing victim (thinning, burning) This is the one to ease the pressure (comfort, longing) Another drink to make me stronger (feeding, nurturing) You step inside, you answer my call (twisting, controlling) So much illusion I’m moving though lying still My mind won’t stop drifting You move in for the kill Another step and your senses are gone (stumble backwards) You feed my head, I feed on your soul (satisfaction) To face the day I taste the night (sanity slipping) And in the end I’ll get what I want (bitter victory) Crawling ‘cross the floor ‘cos I cannot stand I’m all yours, will you take me away? Oblivion’s where I finish the night No more hunger when you turn out the light And all that you can see is my inebriety Amusing them all around Who can’t share our common ground To render your release I long in anxiety For your love I seize control In your arms I fall Flowing down through my veins Sterilizing all my pain A victim by your caress Truths tonight will I confess… I had a dream and the dream was I (nightmare, reality) No need to fight then brace for the fall (dark allegiance) Heat of your touch you feel the burn (rising mercury) And in the end you’ll get what you want! Long nights in my world I return again to the day Too much reality It’s warm here, I think I’ll stay

You look through the mirror To a place not so far from ourselves The reflection of imperfection… The reflection to us all I can see your face looking back at me Is it you? Do you feel it lies in your hands? And when you look into heaven’s eyes You look into the eyes of us all And still you never turn around Like waters flow from the river to the sea As they meet they come together Once again the same as in the beginning Is it the voices living inside your head Shouting: “these are the words of the past”? (the pain never fades) Crying for justice, crying for shame (it never goes your way) The tears never helped you let go So will you move on? Will you cast them away? Those that took hold of your soul… Trying to reason, trying to fight The past never lets you forget This is the colour of your life Is it the voices living inside your head Shouting: “these are the words of the past”? (so many times I tried to tell you) Crying for justice, crying for shame (over and over again) The tears never helped you let go So will you move on? Will you cast them away? (why you don’t listen to me) Those that took hold of your soul… Trying to reason, trying to right The past never lets you forget Quiet the voices crying inside your head Take the sadness that lies on your soul (you know you’re never alone) Reaching for comfort, run from the pain (we have to face the world as one) Into the arms of our dreams So now we’ll move on and live for today Our dreams can create our new lives They’ll give you comfort in your reflection The strength to look into my eyes And now when you look to the skies… You’ll see the colour of heaven’s eyes

Minstrel 10:29
If I could just hear the secrets of your heart I could, I would… find the melody I could dress the part Or even paint my face Singing songs in rhymes The words they interlace Would you think me a fool, or cry insanity? The children gather round To watch the minstrel dance The colours and music blind Holding eyes in trance Swaying backward, forward Rejoicing vanity He lets his arms embrace you in the serenade But look for where you go, you walk the fool’s parade You let go, you dance You’d give anything while given the chance Watch where they go You’d be losing the lot if you don’t catch the show From his heart, he sings From the depths of his soul comes a spark of dreams Watch where he goes You’ll be losing the chance to redeem your soul Does he hold the key? Can he set me free? Mending hearts with melody… One last look is all it takes To claim your spirit, Music raptures, numbing sadness Can’t you… won’t you give yourself to me? Fading sadness, passing fleeting Rhythm charming, lifetime wander, Breathless dreaming, turning magic, Phantom healing, Whence from this man takes my pain? He has no other way And life is but song in the park Some may look the other way For the song in our hearts If we could only see the world Through his eyes, through his songs The way he sees Can you hear the melodies? Not from his voice, but from his heart And of his soul All that I can be (is as close a man as he) All that I create (to his soul that I emulate) Until one day I’m sure to find A long-lost name I’ve left behind myself

Mon Masque 11:28
You create an image An image from your mind Reflection of rejection Commit the perfect crime Can't let the truth escape from your head And you won’t face it Bury your head in sand And you embrace it Hiding away from it all… Les murs de ton âme s’écroulent Sous le masque ton visage brûle To hear a conscience calling From within another mask you hide Mon masque dévoile de nombreux visages Qui cachent ma peur latente Mon esprit embué remplit les espaces D’une realité cauchemar My mask reveals many faces Hiding the fear underneath My mind fills empty spaces Of a nightmare reality Can’t you see pain from the traces? Standing before hidden eyes Phantom shapes, mystical places Fulfill old prophecies You can’t face the feeling You can’t face yourself Accepting of their jester Security on a shelf One… step… before I break Two… more… I begin to shake… Paranoid I begin to crawl behind… the façade Repression is better than reality Lose yourself, crawling out of dignity One… step… before I break Two… more… I begin to shake… Paranoid I begin to crawl behind… the façade Now tell me it’s all right, it’s ok You can save your face for another day Come out of hiding, try to believe Don’t cast another wish in the well of deceit I see that it’s not right That look on my face When you’re reasoning now At the end of the day Running for shelter, my reason for rhymes Without this face a shell for emotions to hide… (hiding) but now I have no place to go but face the fear (reaching) for reason to this old rhyme Justified insanity (stirring) from the fears and doubts to realize the fool I am (tearing) away this mask My truth sees the light of day! J’ai ouvert les portes vers un autre horizon Un royaume dans lequel on voit Tous les visages dans une mer de masques

Great slice of their career and meritorious of further investigation and ultimate purchase.

This is the reason why music sounds very suitable for trained ears such as PENDRAGON and PALLAS as well as SHADOW GALLERY and MAGELLAN itself almost 20 years later.
