Forsaken Innocence

Alrihkh Soothfully a phenomenal prog rock album—an instant classic. What motivates me to say so, is the music’s incredible expressiveness & its wonderfully cinematic song structures. Jargon is a very good fit with this band. It is quite evident that the band’s current lineup have great chemistry together & that they share a common affinity to this vein of music. I look forward to their next creation. Drifting Sun are definitely one of prog rock’s brightest lights. Thank you, DS!
9+/10. Favorite track: New Dawn.

ironspiderzero Hard to explain, but I just like the feel of the album. Forsaken Innocence (both parts) are a great combined track and, as an admirer of instrumentals, Part II draws me in. Favorite track: Forsaken Innocence Part II.

Dean Kimball Without a doubt the best Drifting Sun release so far, which is a difficult thing to say with so many incredible releases. I think this is the best album of the year and I see that Prog Archives listeners agree and have it rated #1. Favorite track: New Dawn.

Bells sail through my dreams where they find their solemn hymns How sweet to watch the night open its eyes I’m the King of a rainy country, rich but powerless Young, yet feeling wintry No longer flattered by the obsequious bow I’m the King of a country Young, yet feeling wintry No longer flattered by the bow I used to hope that life could bring me peace Could lull asleep my deeply gnawing mind I was a fool: the senses clear with time I used to love to cure my old disease love led me to a thick of enmities I used to hope that life could bring me peace I was a fool: the senses clear with time A church bell grieves, a log in the fireplace smokes and hums falsetto to the clock’s catarrh My head on my hands, I watch from my lofty home Spring, Summer, Autumn, and then, with Winter’s monotone of snow I close my shutters - a time to be alone Summer days gone, taking stock of the misty dawn (fall in the well of dreams - wander through aimlessly) I dream my way into treacherous labyrinths Nothing can draw me away from this neverland (a world of kisses sweet - birds singing merrily) Sun rises in my heart, warming my aching soul Summer days gone, taking stock of the misty dawn (fall in the well of dreams - wander through aimlessly) I dream my way into treacherous labyrinths Nothing can draw me away from this neverland

Insidious 08:10
I hear the whispers, I feel the noise, I sense the cries but don’t feel remorse Just war and violence, the lust to kill. Are all we slaves of a dark depravity? Just close your eyes. Under my skin there’s a beast lying within I close my eyes. Under this skin there’s another dark side of me In pure silence and sweet sweet pain there lies the knife, time fades away We can’t go back, we can’t reverse, into an undertow we sail to the end Just close your eyes. Under my skin there’s a beast lying within I close my eyes. Under this skin there’s another dark side of me I see what is in there and what might be, the script’s within my hand, no sense of feeling. Just look in the mirror and see what’s within… A lifeless shape without a face. Just close your eyes… I close my eyes…

Dementium 09:12
Frail, you were running into the fray, in the night I hear you calling; I feel the touch of your soul Forsaken innocence, for seeking inner sense Step into the real world and out of your paranoid realm You hear voices; voices that you cannot quell And the spider is spinning her web of deceit Forsaken innocence Along she feeds into my life again For seeking inner sense Forsaken innocence, for seeking inner sense Step into the real world and out of your paranoid realm I hear you calling; I feel the touch of your soul You hear voices; voices that you cannot quell And the spider is spinning her web of deceit (Forsaken innocence) Along she feeds into my life again (For seeking inner sense) Take me, break me, feed me into your mind Let’s run together until we find the end of our dreams Nothing really is as it seems There’s still time to break into the night And for a time we go to the fountain where we drank our dreams And one last time we go Take him, break him, feed him into your mind Can’t run forever, there is no end to his dreams ‘Cos you can’t feel how he feels There’s no time to steal into the night And to the bitter end we sink into the well of our sins And one last time we drown Take me, break me, feed me into your mind Let’s run together until we find the end of our dreams Nothing really is as it seems There’s no time to steal into the night And to the bitter end we sink into the well of our sins And one last time we drown Step into the real world and out of your paranoid realm I hear you calling; I feel the touch of your soul You hear voices; voices that you cannot quell And the spider is spinning her web of deceit Along she feeds into my life She’s tempting me more than devils could Monstrous in sublime simplicity I was a fool, the senses clear with time Born in a haze that swims within her eyes Stricken with grief, I chastise and I cry Shrouded in pain, sadness and crime And the spider is spinning her web of deceit (Forsaken innocence) Along she feeds into my life again (For seeking inner sense)

New Dawn 06:48
What you leave, what you take from me Like silence piercing daggers through my heart But the leaves are still growing strong And life can do me no wrong Cold wind blows into the night Tho’ I ain’t shivering, I’m winning this fight Love was snuffed away in the blinking of an eye Oh Lord! Please don’t let me die! As the cards are tumbling, we shuffle away from life as we knew it Better cards and a brighter future will be dealt You snatched desire from the jaws of rejection Sorry, but I won’t let you try Was it just illusion, or was it just delusion? The worm is in the fruit, and the poison in my veins It was infatuation; and the reason I’m in pains Smile for tomorrows, weep for yesterdays What you leave, what you take from me Like silence piercing daggers through my heart I’m weeping, but you won’t let me cry Cold wind blows into the night Tho’ I ain’t shivering, I’m winning this fight Love was snuffed away in the blinking of an eye Oh Lord! Please don’t let me die! Cold wind blows into the night Tho’ I ain’t shivering, I’m winning this fight Love was snuffed away in the blinking of an eye Oh Lord! Please don’t let me die!

Hope is in your eyes, but it’s time to break the ties So we go our separate ways; you feel sad I fed you lies Here comes the sign on the wall, the fear is mounting in my eyes Heaven! Hades! Help me get through the night Here comes the snake in the grass, slippery and sly the fiend will rise Demons! Angels! Fear me with all your might! And as you’re tumbling down, I will pick you up This will be no salvation: I will break you down On your hands and knees you’ll fall, You were a fool to trust in me and now you’re about to meet your maker I will be the star you look upon Rising from the depths of your last hope Give in to me now, you shall surrender Hold on to the tide, you’re still alive! Round and round you step into his mind Hang on to the tide of life Find peace within the sign, never tell and never trust Round and round you step into the night Roll away the dice of life Find peace within your soul, never fear for what you’ve got Hope is in your eyes, but it’s time to break the ties So we go our separate ways; you feel sad I fed you lies Round and round you go in the carousel of life So we go our separate ways; no more trouble, no more strife Rain is pouring down on the shadow of our past And it’s tearing us apart; I fear innocence never lasts Round and round we go in the carousel of life So we go our separate ways...

Time to Go 02:28
Mother Nature took her child By the brook, down to the river And the strong winds failed to whisper Gone is the heart It was her time to go Washed away, down by the tide In the morrow, and thereafter Joy will never set their hearts on fire Gone is the heart Let her candle blow Jill and Ted sat in the wild Grateful to the God who took her But the cherry trees knew better Gone is the heart Oh, so long ago There’s no closure till they find Strength and courage to forgive her And their endless tears are bitter Gone is the heart But it’s time to go…

Hand in hand we walk the line for a heart to heart we cannot find I need something that will clear my mind; you can pick up what I left behind Lady Night is falling (innocence forsaken) She’s the daybreak’s dazzling (she’s the tempter) Hand in hand we walk the line for a heart to heart we cannot find I keep searching for a lullaby, but your innocence was left behind But tomorrow lies and then we die; we cast the dice of life Always in my heart and in your hands; our fates are intertwined Hand in hand we walk the line for a heart to heart we cannot find All our dreams and hopes will come to life They will pierce like sunsets through the skies In the dark of your soul (buried in this hollow) I’ll bathe in your sorrow (there’s no future) But tomorrow lies and then we die; we cast the dice of life Always in my heart and in your hands; our fates are intertwined He is your last hope, the ancient knight who’s come to heal your soul You’re the blind man, fickle and vain; cold and cutting like a knife Hand in hand we walk the line for a heart to heart we cannot find I keep searching for an alibi, but my inner sense was left behind But tomorrow lies and then we die; we cast the dice of life Always in my heart and in your hands; our fates are intertwined He was your last hope, the ancient knight - He’s come to steal your soul You’re the blind man, fickle and vain; cold and cutting like a knife Hand in hand we walk the line for a heart to heart we cannot find All our dreams and hopes will come to life They will pierce like sunsets through the skies But tomorrow lies and then we die; we cast the dice of life Always in my heart and in your hands; our fates are intertwined Hand in hand we walk the line for a heart to heart we cannot find I keep searching for a lullaby, but your innocence was left behind But tomorrow lies and then we die; we cast the dice of life Always in my heart and in your hands; our fates are intertwined Hand in hand we walk the line for a heart to heart we cannot find I keep searching for a alibi, but my inner sense was left behind

about

More adventurous and daring than anything Arena, IQ or Pendragon have done. Most like Magenta at its finest feisty moments.
(Progarchives)

One of the best albums of 2021 so far and in my opinion their best to date
(Progarchives)

Let's hope that this collaboration will continue, because the first outcome of it is simply wonderful!
(Progarchives)

Together with this current line-up, I am sure this will wind up at the very top of 2021's lists for most, if not all, prog aficionados out there. It is THAT good!
(Progarchives)

An excellent album for any prog lover to test out for themselves.
(Progarchives)

There are a number of very good Prog bands around at the moment but I have to say that Drifting Sun are making music that works on just about every level and of all I’ve heard this year ‘Forsaken Innocence’ is definitely the best of them.
(music-news/UK)

“Forsaken Innocence” is a merciless piece of art.
(Progenrock/The Netherlands)

If you don’t know Drifting Sun yet, it’s time to open the door to the magic with “Forsaken Innocence”, their latest masterpiece.
(Rock at Night/USA)

L'album de la consécration ultime, l'avenir nous le dira? Indispensable à mes yeux et à mes oreilles.
(Profil Prog/Canada)

When a new studio work by DRIFTING SUN is released, nothing more than a masterpiece can be expected... in response to the immense advance praise, DRIFTING SUN present a 70-minute mammoth work.
(Saitenkult/Germany)

This is a giant of an album.
(Background/The Netherlands)

Cet album est bien sûr destiné à tous les progueux comme à tous les amateurs de belle musique où mélodie et technique font bon ménage.
(Music in Belgium/Belgium)

Overall Drifting Sun has created a very nice neo-progressive album, with great instrumental parts and a vocalist showing his best side.
(Prog Space/USA)

This album is as zesty a piece of neo-prog as you are likely to find. It is a monumental statement for Drifting Sun.
The Spirit of Progressive Rock/UK)

(ProgCritique/France)

A massive progressive tour-de-force.
(musicarockprogresivo/Spain)

The whole band is in awesome form and the performances have a character of their own, without however overshadowing the compositions.
(Progrocks/Greece)

This new album is truly the pinnacle of their work so far. It’s an engaging, captivating and sensational listen every time you press play and is deservedly up there fighting for the honours of album of the year.
(Progradar/UK)

The strongest “Drifting Sun‘ album to date. When it comes to dynamic-melodic prog, they are pretty much the measure of all things at the moment.
(Empire/Germany)

Without a doubt “Forsaken Innocence” is the best album in their oeuvre. And perhaps, time will tell, a neoprog icon.
(ProgWereld/The Netherlands)

Beautiful compositions, warm atmospheres and exquisite chamber rock touches help to compose an aesthetically perfect album.
(rocking/Greece)

Drifting Sun parmi les grands, cette fois, j’en fais le pari!
(Prog Censor/France)

It just made it on my top-10-album-of-the-year-2021-list (despite fierce competition).
(DPRP/The Netherlands)

Forsaken Innocence is without a doubt the best Drifting Sun has ever made and is bursting with beautiful songs with everything a lover of well-made, well-played and well-sung prog rock could wish for.
(Eriks Progtracks/The Netherlands)

Forsaken Innocence sort Drifting Sun de l'ornière 'néo' où il a été confiné jusqu'ici. Sa musique est désormais plus grandiose, plus travaillée et plus diverse.
(Dragon Jazz/France)

Forsaken Innocence sees Drifting Sun at their very best.
(Progarchy/USA)

Jowitt, Sanders and guitarist Mathieu Spaeter are virtuoso players, but the emphasis is on songcraft over widdle, and Jargon brings personality and expression to this assured, polished prog record.
(Prog Magazine/UK)

Soyons clair: avec Forsaken Innocence Drifting Sun frappe un très grand coup
(Big Bang/France)

Une production aux petits oignons, dynamique et claire… le tout meilleur album de la formation et un des albums de l’année.
(Koid'9/France)
